did u get my reply already?anyhoo my presentation is due wednesday...i did get to see the ruins of one in rathmichael cudnt get to the one in kilmac (dogs barking nobody home) but il go back again and try..
they actually turned out to be very interesting.extremly wel built.with twists and turns.dead ends.trap doors.some with sections that only a child would fit thru..air vents and drains.some actually using the 'ring' in ring forts for concelment.an often overlooked national monument i think.

On souterrains and not thinking my question merits a different thread, history says that the Gaelic Irish before the 16th century 'roved' around the country following their herds and mainly living in caves or timber/straw shelters. Where are all the caves??? or were the souterrains providing the much needed shelter and security for the Gaelic Irish?

If I recall correctly, families occasionally occupied various tombs as recently as the middle of the 19th C.
There was one in Rathdown, south county Dublin and one in Glenmalure, county Wicklow, that I know of, but there must have been many more.

It is a good subject to pick up on though, a reference to people living in 'caves' that aren't really abundant in Ireland.
