What is the justification for the Knock 'development charge'?

Surely the cost of 'developing' the place has been covered by now? Did they not get subsidised by the Catholic Church, seeing as the whole thing was based on some crackpot 'vision' of a ghost or equal nonsense?

They say that "your airline will have advised you of this fee in advance" but this is not true. Neither RyanAir nor Aerlingus mention it, or if they do it is definitely hidden.

Airport tax is included in, and usually makes up most of the flight cost. Why do I have to shell out another tenner when I get there?

This has been debated on several previous occasions. The short answer is that it is used to cover the running costs of the place and further infrastructure. That is why Ruinair & others pay SFA to operate there. So, be happy to pay up & stop moaning:rolleyes:

But their running costs must be a great deal less than Shannon for example.

I would have thought the €4.50 pints and €10 "cod" and chips etc would more than cover their running costs.

I wouldn't even mind as much if they just included it in the fares. The way they do it now just makes it feel even more like the highway robbery it is. I often fly on a tight budget and it's hassle enough having to ensure I have enough in my account to withdraw in Euros for buses etc and then have enough left to withdraw in Sterling for trains on the other side, without having to remember to keep a 'spare' tenner for them to steal off me.

Out of interest, what would happen if someone didn't have the cash on them (quite feasible seeing as passengers are not informed prior to arrival)? Surely they would not make you forfeit your flight?

On a side note, when I was going though security yesterday I spotted a small plastic bag with 7 or 8 pills in it thrown on the floor next to the counter. About 10 security personnel milling around and hadn't seen it. I was tempted to pocket it by way of making my money back!

If you had to drive up to dublin , pertrol/tolls/ , you would not have much change out of € 70 not to mention the 3 hours up and down as well .. for €10 its a steal... so dont see what your complaing about

It's part of the cost of travelling.

If you used, say, Dublin then the airport charge is levied on the airline and they pass it on to you in their "taxes & charges" fee.

The crucial question is whether the taxes & charges levied on you by the airline are about €10 lower than in airports like Dublin.

Bhosca, you asked a question and received several answers. If you dont like the answers dont ask the question. Having said that I agree with your point.

I have noticed a lot of hostility lately on different forums towards knock airport .I recon its just Shannon airport lobby groups trying to run it down because it will probaly be the 3rd busiest airport in the country in the not to distant future.I love Knock airport it takes the hassle out of travelling

I agree with what you "saywhatyousee" just because shannon passenger numbers are falling there is no need to be giving knock a hard time about it.. I say shannon is losing big time from Cork airport..Also as part of DAA it will be interesting to see wil Leo Vad make shannon stand on its own two feet.. Cork because of its huge debt on the terminal will still probably wont be touched..
