I'm building a new pc and plan on using the hard drive from my old dell and was just wandering if the copy of xp i have on will still work.Would ubuntu be better than using xp anyway? I'm waiting until i get an ssd before i get windows 7 (or would i be able to get it now and then transfer it over to the ssd?).
    thanks for any help

if you move the drive you will get a blue screen of death with Stop 7B

windows is not designed to be moved because the license is per machine

so unless the Dell had a retail license (and not a retail upgrade license that upgraded an OEM license) then you are not allowed to reuse the license with any other mother board ever.

business versions of windows 7 will allow you to run xp , but home versions don't so you can't run XP on the basis you have a windows premium license

ubuntu vs. xp - depends on what you want to do with it
check your hard ware for stuff that isn't supported by ubuntu or windows 7

if you don't like the user interface in ubuntu 11.04 then try 10.04
