A mate linked this to me - thought some people here may like to have a look at some of the classics that were driven back then :D

Lots on pedestrians on the roads as well as cyclists going the wrong way!

Looks like it was taken from a Mini Moke too. Interesting find. The Classic Cars forum might like to see this one too. :-)

How was the video transfer done?
I'd say there is some better quality to be had from that.
Really interesting piece this, some great cars in there and you gotta love the fashion!

WOW, some blasts from the past there!! Renault 4, MkII Escort, Fiat 126.... that was great, nice one! :)

    Nice footage there...
The Mk II Escort seemed to be the most common car in Dublin at the time...:)

Can anyone make out what make/model the camera is attacted to..?
    looks like an army truck..

Strange to see the different lay out of many of the streets, some of the ones in the video are now pedestrian, one way or one way in the opposite direction to the video.

    Good to watch..

O'Connell St looked fantastic. Clean, no litter, minimal traffic, plenty of space for cars which unlike today, has been turned into paths and central medians for the skangers and druggies to blatantly deal drugs / brawl on.

Back on topic, the cars were the business too as were the old buses. And and awful pity that life today isn't as uncomplicated as its appears to have be then.

Very enjoyable and agree with all of the above, especially the fact that pedestrians and cyclists disregarded the rules of the road as much as they do today! I wonder how many of the cars shown are still about? When I think of the number of classics that I owned down through the years I could cry! Thanks again

    O'Connell St looked fantastic.

Also a notable lack of taxis at the taxi rank, by modern standards.

A noticeable lack of taxi drivers being blatantly racist on the taxi rank too and assaulting black drivers

I was (just), the past is not all it cracked up to be! The roads were ****e and the cars didn't start with a hint of damp or cold. :D

Roads just as bad as they are now. Drove in Dublin at the weekend I thought my suspension was going to fall off

Here's a link for a video about Dublin for the 1988 Dublin millennium celebrations. More detail in the video description on YouTube. The old footage might be of some interest to people here.

It's actually amazing how much more colourful the cars were back then, they all look so interesting, they've all become boring and gray in the mean time :(
