    Hi all,

I'm living in Korea the last 2 years and have a 10 month old bichon with my fiancé. There are specialised dog cafes here that you can go to specifically for dogs to meet up with other dogs and play while the owners sit and watch and have a drink. They are great fun for dog and owner alike and really do a great job socialising the dogs. There are pads in various places for the dogs, water bowls around the cafe and even some toys. Are there similar facilities anywhere in Ireland? I also recently went to a restaurant where the owners are big dog lovers of bichons and actively encourage people to bring their dogs.

It's a pity we aren't more dog friendly that's why some dogs are narky with other dogs because owners don't give them the oppertunity to mix with other dogs or the owners haven't a way to meet other dog owners, places like this would get dog owners socilaising their dogs and they get to socialise as well. We need to become more accepting over here, we've become a nanny state all paranoid about health and safety.
I think there was one open for a while in Clonmel or somewhere in Tipp when they did a kind of pop up shop thing, remember reading about something like that a while back. No idea how popular it was but I thought it was a great idea.

Where do they do their doggy business?....
i dont know about yours but my dog doesnt walk around doin her business everywhere she goes! :D if she needs to go and we're indoors she'd let me know. i would assume most dogs are like that.
and if a dog was in heat
you just wouldnt bring her, same as you dont intentionally have any in heat bitch around intact males unless you want doggy shenanigans going on.
    or not socialised
it would be a place to help socialise. most dogs dont take that long to learn how to be friends, while there are some dogs that will never be dog friendly, even the rescued ones from bad backgrounds can pick up the social rules fairly quickly.

I was only thinking about this today. Just back from a week in France where people bring their dogs everywhere. Walking around shops and supermarkets, cafés etc...
Wish I could do that here :(

there are lots of these places in Korea.

If you search for dog restaurant you might find something diffferent mind as abouttobebanned aluded to.

Heres some youtube links I found, there are plenty there:

    heres some articles on them.

There are several people working in each cafe. They also offer petsitting for your dog if you want. One person serves the food and drinks, others clean up after the people and dogs if needs be etc.

There are pet pads everywhere so the dogs know to go there and I didn't see many if any mistakes when I visited them. Most of the dogs in Seoul would be indoor dogs as its mainly apartment living so they are used to the pads ..... but there are quite a few big dogs there as well. The owners would all be responsible enough with their pets. If the dog does his business there are bags and tissues available for the owners to dump it in special bins or the workers might do it. If the dog is used to going outside then the owner can take them out as mentioned.

Its great fun watching the dogs play and as mentioned by DamagedTrax, the dogs socialise and pick up the canine rules fairly quickly when together. It can be a great learning experience for the dog.
