    I usually get a chance to listen to some of Janice Long's show on BBC R2 before I hit the hay at night. I used to always enjoy the show but a few things lately have started to irk me.

    It's becoming a bit of a talking shop really. I used to really enjoy the music she played but it seems there's less and less of it now. For instance, the weather comes on at 1:15 and there's invariably a right old natter between her and the weather presenter. It gets even worse if the presenter is someone she knows well. It's a good thing the 'Thought for a day' @ 1:30 is recorded because she's probably natter to them as well. Next up, there's Alex Lester who takes over from her but, at 1:50 she's off nattering to him for nearly the remainder of the show. I think she gets in one quick song but I've usually switched off by then.

    Also, I wish she would just shut the hell up about Morrissey/The Manics/Primal Scream. Yes, they've been on her show and she's obviously friends with them but, really, for god's sake, she could give it a rest every now and again.

    I know the obvious solution is, as the BBC say, "Other Radio shows are available", but a natter every so often isn't that bad and nice to break the routine but, at this point, it looks like she has her show to promote bands she's either friendly with or has seen lately (and that's not a bad thing in some ways) but spending almost half your air time nattering with your mates doesn't come across well. She just seems to personify the civil servant mentality of, I'm here, it's my air time, I'll do what I want with it. I always end up thinking now, "have your bloody conversations with these people off air". I suppose I don't really think it's that professional. I do love the whole idea of maybe 30 seconds of a handover (which is maybe where it started) but going on for nearly 10 minuts just strikes me as half-arsed production.
