    Guys,

Having an issue with setting up a new router on my PC. I am very comfortable with changing settings etc on my PC, although Networking is not my forte.

I currently use the 3 E122 dongle for internet access. I purchased the Sapido GR-1733 router. I initially had issues with setting up an IP address getting the 169.54.xxx.xxx issue but have managed to sort that now.

My problem is when logging onto 192.168.1.1 to set up the router, it keeps timing out.

I can ping 127.0.0.1, 192.168.1.x which is the built in Intel Pro/100 NIC, but when I ping 192.168.1.1 sometimes it times out, other times it has no problems, and other times it will lose 1 packet! :( However, it NEVER gets me to the config area, the furthest I've gotten is to the username/passpword screen.

When running ipconfig /all it shows up the following for the Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection-
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix - Sapido_GR-1733_c98bc3
    Description: Intel Pro/100 NIC
    Physical Address: (gives MAC Address)
    DHCP Enabled: Yes
    Auto-Config Enabled: Yes
    IP Address: 192.168.1.101
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DHCP Server: 192.168.1.1
    DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
    Lease Obtained: 20 Dec 2011 11:15
    Lease Expired: 20 Dec 2011 19:15

Also, when I plug my iPhone directly into the USB port, I can connect on 192.168.1.100 and transfer files directly using the Wi-Fi.

Finally, the ethernet cable is brand new and when I plug it in/out the Network Connection recognises it so I don't think the cable is the issue. (and have tried different e/net ports in case that was an issue).

I don't have another PC to try it on in case that is suggested! ;)

    Appreciate & and all help!
    Will

P.S. Am at this now for 2 days with no joy!

Try unistalling the Intel Pro/100 NIC in device manager then check for new devices allow it to reinstall and try again.

    Hi Will_H,
I've just received a TP-Link 3G Router and I'm going to be setting it up when I get a chance.
It will also be on the 3 network - are there any special setting I need for 3 that you are aware of ?
    Thanks !

    Hi deadl0ck,

I had some issues with mine. No 1 of which was the brand new e/net cable I bought was faulty! So if you do have issues, make sure you've a backup one!!

Also, under my Windows IP Configuration (cmd>ipconfig /all), my node type was unknown & I had to change it to Hybrid, plus I had to allow my firewall (Comodo) to allow traffic through to UDP ports 67/68. For most people it's straightforward, so you probably won't have those issues.

Finally, check Jor el's settings here for 3Ireland.

Cheers & best of luck with it!
    Will
