Can anyone recommend a good tool for searching files in a directory for a certain text string?
Had a google but nothing stood out.

If you have Windows XP use this. In Vista/7 searching within files is supported out of the box

    LOL

DON'T INSTALL that link in XP as you can't uninstall it !

Windows 95 / NT4 had an option for FIND on the start menu. If you used the advanced options it would search files named XYZ containing text ABC

In my experience the windows 7 search has been less useful than a chocolate teapot, and I wish it had the search capabilities from '95

Here's the Find in Files dialog from Textpad, quite a few options in there. It is officially shareware though.
