Don't try to turn it on! Put it in a bag / bowl of uncooked rice in the hotpress for a day or two and cross your fingers. It might make it. I believe the most damage happens when you try to turn a water damaged phone on.

you'd be better off taking it all apart and try dry off as much as you can in leave it on a radiator or hot press. The rice doesn't absorb water until it reaches 60 degrees. As far as i know,

No worries, as I said, it might make it. How badly water damaged are we talking here? But yeah, just throw it in a bowl of rice in the hot press overnight at least, maybe longer if you can do without it and then give it a shot, could be in luck! Failing that, I think some of those shady " we repair iphone" places might be able to help you. Also, FWIW, insurance tends to exclude water damage, so she didn't really loose out by not getting any. Best of luck! :)

I'd always advice using a hoover over hotpress, hair dryer, etc.
20mins with the hoover on the dock and sim area should have it bone dry

    Don't use the hair dryer
Use a Hoover only around the dock and sim tray, you don't want to damage the earpiece

I have an iPhone 4 that is water damaged but was able to get photos off and to update to ios 5. It won't activate though. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? No insurance but am willing to pay to get it fixed in Clare / limerick area. Do apple do out of warranty water damage repairs? Tks for any advice

the best thing you can do, it to take out the mother board and put it in paint thinner, this dries up the board completely
