i started hunting with a setter a number of years ago, great at what she was supposed to do, then started going out with lad's that had springer's and now own 3 springers. it all depend's what quarry you perfer shooting, personally i rather woodcock shooting and dont bother much with the pheasants so springer's are the way to go. then thier's nothing like watching a setting lock solid on a bird,

I keep pointers and springers its great for the change to bring out different ones different days. Its a matter of what your main hunting ground is. If ya have stubble and light cover keep the pointing dogs and if its heavy cover get the springer. If it was me I would keep the pointer and head out wit the lads wit the springers for a change or bring them wit the pointers/setter. That way ya have the best of both worlds

If you are tight on space go with the cocker. the brother in law had one up until sept, she died while havIng her first litter. She was a peach on cover and was also let in around the house, best of both worlds.

I use the springer in the morning & pointer in the evening Charlie.
It's great to mix it up as it allows you cover different country.

Keep the GSP though til you have the space. Work with the other lads Springers. Lot easier to shoot on your own with the GSP also.
Pointers are great dogs. Once your lad gets birds & seasons they get so clever that they'll hunt a Springers legs off. More of a brain than the brute IMO.

You need space - Time to move the Missus on lad ;)

Well its not space either but we already have another pet dog and 3 would be an issue with exerciseing them and that.i live in a town so not that easy to let them loose around ya know

We used keep GSP's and springers but with the last 7 or 8yrs its just springers. I find them alot more fun to work with and more versatile also (fur & feather) If you do decide to get a springer or cocker just bare in mind that it could take anything up to 2yrs for one of them to reach there peak, especially in your case where you don't have an already experienced springer/cocker to get them going.
