    Hi all,

Does anyone know if Ryanair will allow me to carry a helmet on board in addition to my hand luggage or will they insist on raping my wallet for the privilege?

    Thanks.

I was thinking that but I don't think Mrs WA would be impressed! :)

Helmets are only tested in impacts up to 12mph, so it will be ineffective if the plane goes down. Just leave it at home.

I brought a snowboard helmet on a flight a few years ago with them.. Had it just clipped tight onto my shoulder bag...

Mel and I always do - just clipped onto the back of our backpack. 100+ flights - no problem yet.

Me bruvver is a Ryanair pilot. He told me that when Ryanair introduced an extra charge for carrying skiing boots he saw several people wearing them as they boarded the plane. One way of giving the 'two fingers' to the robbing basta*ds. So just carry your helmet under your arm, and pop it on your head if they give you any hassle.

As a slight aside, my brother also informed me about the 'airport phenonoma', which is well recognised within the airline industry. And that is - your average joe public's IQ actually halves the minute he/she steps inside an airport terminal building. So when I am travelling with the family I have to warn them (particularly the wife) to move it up a gear. When we are about to board a flight I look at the people ahead of me and I try delay it until the person ahead of me is being queried about the size of their carry on luggage, then I speed up and pass them by. I never slow down and asked to be stopped. I will if I am approached, but I'm fuc*ed if I'm going to volunteer. I've often carried a extra (small ) bag on board, it just required an extra bit of savvy to beat the system.

Just wear it and act like you have no idea what they are referring to if they give you any hassle. They might even give you crayons and a colouring in book if you play it right.

English airports are the worst for bag checking. Its the only place I've seen anyone being questioned about the size of their carry on bags.

English Airport Lady: Madam, you can't take a second bag on to the plane.
French Lady: What do you want me to do lady? Stick it up my ass?

I laughed out loud that day.

I have edited a post above and the 2 following posts that quoted it, all for inappropriate language. If you have an issue with my editing of the posts please PM me for more in depth reasons, though I am sure you don't need one.

i was gonna post a pic of Cartman wearing his helmet. But I'm sure you could pass it off as a safety concern. You could always wear your cycling brogues for effect too & an RSA hi-vis.
