Hi I would really appreciate if anyone could give me a clue as to the approximate cost of replacing a catalytic converter in a Opel Vectra 1.8 Estate - year 2000. It went on mine yesterday at the WORST possible time of the year. I just need a guide to see whether I can afford to get the job done yet.

    Thanks for your help,

    S. :)

What way did it fail? Broken and leaking or not functioning and putting the MIL on?

Go to a scrap yard, probably 100 for the converter and another 100 fitting. On the Opel they can be tricky enough to remove but if your garage is decent shouldn't be too much over 100

All this fibre like a frayed rope was coming out of the exhaust. Don't know how else to describe the stuff.

A crowd in Baldoyle.. I think they're called Berminghams. Worth a call. I brought my in-laws A4 there a few years ago. Audi wanted 1400 to replace cat, that place in Baldoyle did the whole lot for around 400.

A cat doesn't have any fibre in it..... that's the internals of one of your silencer boxes coming apart.
