I am a little confused about these. When did the golf introduce the turbo on them and is it on some and not on others. Was looking at a 98 and is badged cl on back but someone mentioned to me that some of the earlier ones were turbo. Think there was a model change in 99 but would appreciate any info re m2 k3 mk4 naming etc.

Both turbo and non turbo diesels were sold.

Tdi mark 3s are very rare, my friend has one and it was imported from the UK before he bought it. Most sold in Ireland seemed to be naturally aspirated.

Many mk4 golfs are on the other hand Tdi but the non turbo SDi was also sold. An absolute pig of a car though without a turbo, it will struggle to do 100km/h and you will overtake at your own death wish. I had to take one when my own car was being repaired, worst 2 days of my life!

Ive yet to see anything before a MK4 golf being a TDI in Ireland.

I drove an SDI Mark4 before buying my current TDI model, the difference in performance and accelaration is phenomenal. Avoid at all costs the SDI (and NA) models IMO.

Mate of mine had a Mk1 Golf fitted with a 1.6TD lump from a Mk2 Golf GTD. The GTD came in full GTi spec, only with the diesel engine.
