Plane flying extremely low

Should and can you report a plane flying really low over your house. I'm talking about 10 to 15m over the roof at most. It happened yesterday which I put down to a mistake, but its after making a return flight at a similiar height.

Anyone know of a potential reason for flying so low?

I assume this would be regarded as dangerous.

    Hi there
There is a twin-engined Twin Otter, belonging to a Canadian company, doing a geophysical survey at the moment, operating out of Enniskillen, along the Border area and it has permission to operate at low-level. If you want to complain, call the IAA.

    regards

That explains that then. It was a twin engined plane, and I live in mid-Monaghan about 5 mile from the border.

I'll assume they know what they're doing.

    Thanks for the response.

I think they fly at 200 feet. As Stovepipe says, they have full permission to fly that low. Previously a modernised DC3 was used for a similar mission down south a couple of years ago. That would have been more spectacular. A friend of mine knew the pilot, he allegedly said it was quite boring, if flying at 200 feet can be described as boring.

Yeah...I remember seeing the BT-67 (Turbo prop DC-3) when it was flying around the Midlands. A pretty impressive sight....though it would have been even better had the sound of radial engines accompanied it! :D

Its the Twin Otter all right, saw her near Ballybay at the weekend.

@Nforce, agreed the Dak would sound better with the old P&W's !! Wasnt it back here earlier this year ?

500 feet from persons or property, normally.
    Thats pretty damned close.

It was flying low over mid Louth last week too..

Obviously doing the rounds a while then.

It certainly wasn't anywhere near 200 feet when it flew over us. Quite an unusual sight.

It would have been flying at it's regulated height which I believe is in and around 200 feet, any lower or higher would distort the survey results so they won't be skimming the rooftops despite what it looks like. It can be quick tricky to judge an aircraft's actual height so it might seem lower than it actually is.

There should have been warnings locally particularly in the local papers.

I think I saw this over Carrick on Monday while I was out on the bike. Only really noticed it as you don't see many planes here. Definitely not a DC-3 more twin otter size and a light green/grey colour (but I was wearing shades) I think, and a lot of probes

Thanks, that answers a question for me. Was driving up to Ballybay on the Carrick/Ballybay Road on Sunday and saw an aircraft flying low in the distance. I couldn't identify it, but thought it unusual as I don't recall ever seeing a plane around Ballybay and I've been up and down to Ballybay for the past 18 years.

There were leaflets sent out to the houses in the area, at least I got one ...

It's a sea-plane, I assume the high prop has to do with that.
A friend of mine posted some pics of him and his dad flying it on facebook, looked fun!

Saw what i presume was the Twin Otter at low level outside Dundalk this morning at about 11am. Looked to be in or about 3 to 4 miles west, between Dundalk and Cullaville. Couldnt get a real good view as i was driving at the time and a bit of a distance away.

On an aside apparently there was an aircraft operating in the same area but a bit higher and after darkness on Monday night, Buzzed around the place for about an hour or so keeping to a fairly constant circling pattern in roughly the same area.

It was on nationwide some time back, end of summer/autumn.

Thanks for the info, but have heard since there was a security incident near there and reckon it might have been the Garda Defender ?
