Device manager can't see the network adapter. I checked the bios and it is enabled. I did a clean install of xp pro and it still doesn't see it. Not even as an unknown device.
I installed a PCI network adapter. That came up as an unknown device. I installed the drivers for it and then it too disappeared. There is nothing showing in network connections.
I wonder is there a jumper on the board or something that disables network cards?

    STUMPED!

check in the bios there is no IRQ conflicts

change the network adapter IRQ to something higher or lower

and check Plug and Play Aware o/s is set to yes

I was kind of thinking along those lines. However, I have reformatted and, for the hell of it I've loaded windows home as oppose to the originally shipped XP pro. This time it does see the trendnet pci card and all is well. There is however a bios update on the HP website that I want to run. However It needs to be run in DOS mode. I may need to pull out the school books.
