Burnout!

I think i'm in danger of burnout, or just collapsing! (well maybe that is a bit too far of an exaggeration)

Since October id say, I have being in full time college (final year) from around 9am till afternoon, then work (part time) in the evenings till late. Get home around 12am, grab some dinner and do college work till 3ish Am in the mornings. Up the next day around half seven! In final year and have allot of deadlines to hit (looking for a 1st this year), plus KPI's in work. Often miss breakfast and lucky to grab a on the move lunch before traveling to work. Probably tbh living off one meal a day (reheated dinner at 12) and the odd chicken roll/burger. And of course, many a red bull!

Weekends, i'm in work from morning to evenings. Work is technically part time, but in reality full time during the xmas period, had one day off this week and am working seven straight days till my next one.

Can't drop work, need the money and have already tried to pull back the hours, no luck. On probation, so have to thread carefully as well.

Getting very stressed recently, shaking hand(s) the very odd time for no apparent reason, short temper and sleeping on bus's/trains when I get the chance. Had a very difficult supervisor on my back this week, nit picking whatever he can, guy is just an ass and everyone knows it. Id usually glance over it, but this week I came very close to actually just hitting him, had my fist clenched behind my back when getting a dressing down.

    What can I do? :(

Your problems are caused by a lack of sleep! You are going to start making more mistakes and having an upset temperment until you get enough sleep.

The only way you can solve this problem is to get more sleep. You are burning the candle at both ends and if you keep this up you're going to fall ill. As it is, you're stressed, making mistakes, exhausted, eating badly and well on the way to some sort of breakdown. Are there any other ways you could finance getting through this year? Student loan perhaps? Help from your family? Another job (if you can find the time to look for one). If you do keep the job, could you miss some morning lectures and get some much needed sleep?

Feeling a bit of this myself OP, but not to the same extent (only 3rd year and not as many hours by the sounds of it).

Personally, I'd drop the job if it's going to effect your chance of a 1.1, you could see about getting a loan/finance from a bank, and pay it back when you get a job after college. You can always pay back a loan, but it'll be alot harder to get a 1.1 if you keep this up.

    Best of luck.

Lay off the Red Bull, it'll give you the shakes in no time.

Pick a weekend when you can get a full night's sleep and go for it. Pick a mid-week day to sleep from 1am. Extra sleep will make your college work more effective and will reduce your error rate at work. Red Bull is a one-off energy drink; regular use (or loads of coffee) will wreck you.

It sounds as though you get no exercise at all; that's a mistake. You need to amend your ways, even if it means dropping the job for a while.

    Be at peace,

    Z

I can't advice you on how to reschedule your College/Work life, but you certainly need to slow down somewhat. I never drank too much redbull, but I certainly developed a very angry and agressive temperment alleviated by enough sleep and easing some much needed stress.

I know you need work to support yourself, but search for an alternative or rearranging your hours so your income isn't affected. Many other posters have the same idea, don't wreck yourself, it isn't good for you.

You dont sound like you're exaggerating at all tbh.

My suggestion is to calmly, politely - and absolutely - insist on reducing your hours at work. Possibly talk to a doctor and ask them if they can provide a letter or something. Try to make them see that it's simply not possible for you to keep going the way you are.

You can drop the work, if you want. Then walk into your local credit union and get one of those cheap 6% interest rates for an education loan to tide you over. If necessary, get another adult to be your guarantor. It shouldn't be necessary, however; or at least it wasn't in my case despite having little money in the credit union.

The short-term money you get for part-time hours in your final year is as nothing to the scholarships and doors you can get open by putting all your energy into your final year's result.
