is it where a load of people go to see a DJ, and instead of actually dancing, they stand around watching him mix??

and IDM, i know it stands for intelligent dance music, (i think?) but what does it mean??

Naw, theres cool lights, lasers and stuff and we eat things, not edible food but mind altering medication. Braindance is the ambient idm (Intelligent Dance Music, a phrase coined by the US which doesnt really mean anything really) kind of stuff done by the likes of Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, Autechre and 70s groups like Can and Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno. Musique Concrete, sound scapes with a techno or d n b beat.

You asked about braindance, this is about as accurate as I can be as Aphex does loads of different styles, but he started off with the ambient techno and his first few albums are characterised with this kind of style, which he describes as sounds he encounters in his dreams, he still dips into this style in some of his shows, like the recent Forbidden Fruit he done in Dublin and this track by fellow Warp label mates Autechre which he mixes to his beat. This is what you call braindance music. Sorry for derailing the thread a bit.
