Hey guys, I have a laptop which dropped while it was on. It was totally fine until the event happened. Now, the screen turns on (you can hardly see it) but there is basically no light on. But when you look really closely, you can actually see the things that are happening on the computer.

What do I need to fix? How much would the 'things to buy' be?

    Thanks for helping guys.

    Btw, it's a Dell Vostro 1510.

It sounds like the back light is gone but you might be lucky and it's just the inverter as if it's the back light you might as well get a new screen i dont know any were that fix's back lights on screen's as it takes so much work.

I am having the same problem with a laptop. If you look very closely you can kind of make out what is on the screen but its very hard. Is there any way of fixing this cheaply?
    Thanks.

thenightrider suggested the inverter. That would be the cheapest, if it is it.
Also possible to be the LCD inverter cable, which works out the same price-ish.
If it's the backlight, then replace the screen. Roughly about €70 - €80 to do it yourself, €100 - €130 Repairshop

Thanks guys. I'll try and do a little fix-it stuff during the week. Thanks again.

I had a similar thing happen on a dell latitude (cant remember the model). If I shined a light on the screen I could see it was working. I took it apart and disconnected the power cable, which looked slightly loose. After I reconnected them, it worked again. And has been working since. I can only assume it came loose at some time when I dropped it. Perhaps try that before you order a new screen/inverter.

Yeah I'll see everything when I open it up. Thanks a lot :)
