The Radiator bleed valve on a 97 Megane seems to be blocked, so no air or water comes out. Result is heater does not work so it's bleedin freezing.

Any ideas how to fix the bleed valve? or way round this?

Is this the valve on the interior matrix feed pipes at the rear of the engine?

If you unscrew the bung totally and nothing comes out, assuming the coolant level is full, I'd be worried that your water pump has failed.

    Thanks.
No it's on the back of the radiator itself. See it circled on this picture from the web.
I'm trying to refill it after changing the pump. No air/water comes out this bleed screw no matter which way I turn it, as I fill the bottle. My guess is its gunked up.

Thats the point/problem. I'm filling it up but the air/coolant doesn't leak out so the system is air locked. This plastic screw/valve is blocked and I'm wondering if there is an easy way to unblock it.

can you take the whole valve off?

peugeot is absolute nightmare to bleed, so im presuming renault is same, what helps a lot is having the front of the car as high off the ground as possible and u need to bleed the bleed valve at the heater matrix, thermostat housing and radiator in that order, one by one. failing that get a mechanic with a pressurising system that forces the coolant through the engine , matrix and rad.

would turning it over help pump it around?

can you unbolt and raise up the expansion tank as high as possible?
Try squeezing holes while it's up high the air might work out, assuming you don't get the bleed going on the rad. There is also small screws in the pipes leading to the bulkhead iirc. These need to be bled out.

re: the photo, I don't think that's a bleed valve.

The bleed valves for the heater are small "thumbscrew" things on the heater hoses, however you are better off just disconnecting the hoses to bleed them because those bleed screws are delicate. (after all, it's a Renault!)

Your not wrong about delicate - my bro used woodglue to seal one of his after it started weeping post bleeding. It actually works fine ;-)

edit that looks more like a drain plug, in which case the radiator is in upside down ... j/k

 besides the 2 companies being the same nationality, whats the connection that makes you think that?

Op are you taking the bleed screw the whol eway out? They can normally be pull out to just leave a big hole.If that size hole is blocked you may have other issues (you or previous owner using a load of radweld maybe?)

No, I was just rotating it half a turn. Do you know if they actually pull out on the Megane? What...rotate and then pull?
