Apparently 50 quangos were to be abolished or merged in 2012. Does anyone know if this happened or which quangos were abolished/merged?

Wasn't the quango abolition committee set up to figure that one out?

Really, please people, stop believing these frauds - it looks so desperate.

It was discussed a while back on RTE radio that unless staff are let go there will be no real savings from merging quangos.

In the case were staff are transferred into government departments it is quite possible the net result with be a higher cost as their pensions arrangements will be upgraded to match those in the department they're transferring into.

Does anyone know how many quangos we have? I've heard about 800, can anyone confirm that?

Kenny talked about this in his speech. I still haven't heard word and I'm surprised the media hasn't asked the question. Did he lie to the nation?

No-one really knows how many we have, but it's currently estimated at over 2,000. It was over 800 in 2006.

If he did, he was only continuing what he started during the election campaign.

The list is at the link below under the heading "Rationalisation of State Agencies"
