Problem with groceries from Amazon (especially those "not-in-stock now.. we'll deliver when available") is you may never get them.

They'll e-mail you regularly to say they're awaiting stock.. blah blah blah.. and then cancel them.

But hey-ho.. ordered 6 bags of the Dark Roast and 6 bags of the Medium Roast. Only have a 1kg bag of Temple Bar Coffee Beans left in the press.

If you order the coffee beans plus something else in order to qualify for free delivery and the coffee beans order is cancelled, do you still get the other item with free delivery?

Yes, but if it's free delivery they won't send it out in a separate consignment, it will be sent when the orders cancelled so you could be waiting a while

Not necessarily.. if the item is set for a long wait for despatch, they'll typically despatch it seperately (sooner rather than later).

That's correct basq. Happened that way for me before. That gives me a cunning plan!

Got mine delivered today - man, that's a lot of coffee!
I have a small grinder, but it'd be nice to be able to grind a lot at once and give some to my friends - does anyone know if you can grind coffee in a Magimix?

FYI the Medium roast seems to be decaffeinated!!!

BTW, how do you get free delivery to Ireland? It says it's only free to the UK.

    Ben

I ordered two of this one, and when I was checking out I was offered free super saver delivery (order over 25 pounds I think): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Equal-Exchange-Espresso-Roast-Coffee/dp/B0069LC5A2/

Yeah, spotted that.. so cancelled and re-ordered 6 bags of Dark Roast and 6 bags of Espresso Roast.

I've gotten e-mails from them saying the Espresso Roast will despatch in the next week, but nothing arrived as of yet.

Free Super Saver Delivery is available once you spend £25 or over in the same order.

Its recommended that you grind coffee in a coffee grinder which controls the size of the finished coffee, i.e different grinds for espresso and percolator without heating up the beans in the process.

Amazon are now charging the price in the OP for a single 1KG bag! :D

Mine box of coffee (6 1kg bags) arrived today. Seems like I got a real bargain. Haven't had a chance to grind the beans and make any coffee yet but it certainly smells great.

yep, and the 'headline' also states 'Equal Exchange Espresson Roast Whole Bean Coffee 1kg £16.22 (£2.70/kg)' which suggest 6kg (6 x 1kg bags in a box maybe?)

I just ordered 2 x 6kg's (to avail of the free delivery) and I'm relying on the "6KG weight" and in particular the £2.70/kg line in the description to ensure I get 12kg of dark roast fair trade beans in 1KG bags.

Only time will tell if they get more stock in and if they continue to ship out 6 x 1kg bags for £16.22.

The lone review on Amazon (written on Jan 10th) suggests that the coffee received has a use by/best before (not clear on that) of 11 months (so end 2012).

6kgs seems to be around 26 normal 'bags' of coffee, which is quite a lot, unless you are making coffee at home nearly every day (I don't as I don't have time in the morning). So it's cheap, but I guess only good value if you're in a position to use it, or buy for friends.

I are confused. Is this still available at the price in the OP or not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,375 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

According to the Amazon.co.uk site, the offer still stands (6kg).

Ordered 6kg* Dark roast and 6kg medium roast. Just saw yesterday that medium roast was decaf and tried to cancel the decaf... too late, the medium roast was despatched. Darn. Anyone interested in 6kg of Decaffenated Coffee Beans ?

Hi folks, do unground beans keep for longer than ready-ground coffee? I'm the only one in my house that drinks coffee and supposedly it goes off within a couple of weeks after opening the bag.

With that in mind, can anyone recommend a decent grinder?

When coffee beans are exposed to air, they become oxidised and slowly lose their flavour.

Get a good air-tight container and keep unground beans in that.. and pop in a fridge!

    That's what I do!

The coffee purists will recommend a pricey but worthwhile burr grinder.. it crushes the bean as opposed to blitzing it (which heats the bean / ground coffee up).

There's more science in this coffee malarky than you might think!

I got this cheap and cheerful grinder and it did the job just fine.

But got a present of a bean to cup machine for birthday last month with a built in burr grinder - so grinder isn't used anymore!

I would be, depending on where you are.

Hi, for those still seeking coffee beans, Harvey Norman Blanch have 1kg Lavazza Rossa Beans for €13. Not in the same price league as the OP, but still good price for good quality beans.

I've used this deal. It's a good price but I'm underwhelmed by the beans to be honest.

    Might try Harvey

    E-mail from Amazon:
    Hello,

We're writing to you about your order for the following item:

    XXXXXXXXXX

Equal Exchange Organic Dark Roast Whole Bean Coffee 1 kg

It's come to our attention that the item you ordered was incorrectly listed on our website at the time you placed your order. The original description on the website was for 6 x 1kg bags, but the actual product is only a single 1kg bag.

We can appreciate that this wasn't what you expected when you placed your order and we'd understand if you'd prefer to cancel it. You can cancel orders at any time by going to “Your Orders” in Your Account or by clicking the link below..

Yeaaaaaah.. I'm gonna go ahead and cancel that €19 bag of coffee.

    Mm-kay!?

Yeah, just cancel your order otherwise they'll be sending you ONE 1 x KG pack of coffee for €19 then you'll be all pi**ed off and trying to argue with them etc etc. Not worth the blood pressure. I cancelled my order today.

Let's face it we all knew it was a fcuk up on their part so we can't really complain that they are putting it right. None of us ar eout of pocket or anything and their T&C's make clear they are not entering into a binding sale if the item is out of stock.
