Temporary van insurance

The following a is a real fix:

A van has been given on loan for a few days but it has not been possible to insure it. My private car policy covers the driving of other cars ...but not vans.

If I was to take out a policy on the van I would need to be the registered keeper which of course I am not.

The van owner (a garage) cannot add me to their policy as the owner would need to accompany me.

Has anyone any suggestions to obtain temporary insurance?

transfer your insurance to the van?

If the van is taxed privately, you can phone your insurance company to temporarily transfer insurance from your car to the van, they might charge you an admin fee. If it's taxed commercially, they will charge you well for it. Last time I enquired for someone who wanted to do it with Insure.ie, it was around 70 Euro.

123.ie won't allow temporary insurance of a commercial vehicle and the policy covers driving of other cars only

Do you have a car insurance policy?

Your insurer may allow a temporary transfer onto the van however alot of them wont allow temp transfers onto vehicles you own or because its a commercial as opposed to a private vehicle.

There is no company that Ive ever encountered that will give you cover for a couple of days as a stand alone product.

I am surprised there is no one covering this gap in the market.
