    Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right forum to post in but here goes.
Five years ago I had a baby and the day she was born her father left for Australia without telling me.Last year he came back and made contact. He wanted us to get back together more than he wanted to see his daughter so we stopped speaking. Then this Summer he came back and he met his daughter and spent 4 months getting to know her but when I said I didnt want relationship with him he left again.
Now he is looking for legal guardianship without having ever contributed a cent to her welfare.I even ended up paying for his car insurance so he could travel to see her.
Where do I stand? He is very vindictive and not a good role model for any child as he drinks, does drugs and lives in a caravan illegally parked. But Im afraid he might win and he will then have power over her future.
Any help at all much appreciated.

Guardianship has nohing to do with mantenance. You won't really succeed in fighting an application for guardianship. You should apply for mantenance.

If he wins he can prevent you leaving the country with her, not too much else. He needs custody to have some control.

You should also report him regarding caravan and drugs (if you evidence). If he is prosecuted for drugs he will be much less likely to succeed in gaining custody.
