    This lad here: http://www.asus.com/Barebone_PC/V_Series_2530L/V6M4A3000E/#overview

    With 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333 and an Athlon II X4 640.

Put it all together and got nothing. It doesn't even beep.

All the components are new apart from the HDD and DVD ROM. Both taken from another (working) pc.

I got the DVD drawer to open. That's about it.

Try unplug everything and reseat them, A faulty PSU or loose power connector could show sympthoms you describe, when you say doesn't start, does the machines LED stay on? If so try booting off one stick of RAM, followed by the other, could be a faulty stick, an all to common thing unfortunately :(

Tried reseating everything. Swapped the RAM around, and tried booting from each one separately.
Took a close look at all connections, and they all seem ok.

Tried booting without the HDD and the DVD ROM, both separately and together.
Tried unplugging the front speaker port and USB ports.

    The LED stays on.

I suppose I could try swapping the PSU and see if that makes a difference.

    Cheers.

Sounds to me like faulty PSU, could be a mobo problem either

    Must be the motherboard.
    The PSU isn't the problem.

Now to send the ****ing thing back.

Make sure the psu is connected properly to the motherboard and the power button connector are right, made a mess of this when i was building mine lol

I have also done this. PSU connected properly and power on button connected properly has been a problem for me more than once. It's very rare for a computer manufacturer to ship something that's just outright broken.

Thats what im thinking, try to get a second look at it before you send it back.

Set it up outside of the case on a counter or table. If the case is shorting out the board nothing will start and there'll be no beeps.

It can be caused by bending the mother board while attaching the CPU cooler or by standoff's been screwed out loose/tight. Even check the I/O panel to make sure the prongs have contact with USB hubs etc..

It has happened to me before, its easy to over react when building a new rig :P

It is connected properly. I checked it with another PSU, and still no luck.

The power button is connected properly too. It lights up when pushed.

It was a barebones system, and all the leads were already connected.
I did disconnect and reconnect them while trying to get it to work.

Ah yes. I've had this also. Pain in the face and hard to diagnose.

Could it be the motherboard battery? Happened to me on a new motherboard once.

IIRC, it would not start, but I'm not 100% sure.

With a faulty mobo battery the computer should start fine, maybe throw an error about loosing BIOs settings but should start normally with default BIOs config
