An older relative, who's sense of taste has sort of gone was feeling a little bit thirsty before driving to work, so took a drink from a bottle of diet coke, without telling me.

Problem is, I stuck a fair amount of vodka in with it earlier today, and I only noticed which particular bottle he'd dranken from after he left.

Chances are, the poor ould fella never even noticed the extra flavour.... or thought his sinuses were acting weird again if he did. Then happily got into his car.

So. If... in theory... he gets pulled over. Speaking hypothetically, is it a defence to say the drink was adulterated without your knowledge? Or will I get in trouble with the law for not telling him before he left?

Because he really doesn't deserve a DD conviction. Has always done designated driver and the like and been studiously careful about it when going out.
