I paid €60 today for a conplete clean. As a result of my negligence I developed periodantal disease but I feel as though I am being treated like cattle for that sum of money. Granted the young woman in question trained and probably studied very hard to make her way to her position; but for that sum of money I feel like I am being taken for a ride! There was also no check for oral cancer or any other defects you associate with oral health! oral cancer runs in my family and i was too embarrassed to question her about a lesion on my gum!

Sounds like good value to me to be honest.

Why, did she put that thing that sucks liquid out of your mouth onto your nipples or something?

How do you know there was no check for oral cancer? It's hardly that big your mouth of yours is it? I'm sure if she spotted some lump somewhere she would have said :)

wtf! i've never heard of them checking for oral cancer when cleaning your teeth. if you have a family history of oral cancer, it's your job to tell them that.

dental hygienists don't study oral medicine to the level that could make diagnoses on lumps and bumps. he/she can only suggest you go back to your dentist, who in turn will send you to hospital where someone qualified can make that decision.
also, why didn't you mention it? if you go to the mechanic asking for an oil change, you can't complain if they don't check the brakes etc.

Good. You need to see a dentist about that, or your GP, not a hygienist.

    Hygienists never check for that.

I pay =€50 for scale and polish in London, I don't think that's astronomical.

Can the mod please redirect my post to the more appropriate section? Obviously this is not the place

I'm confused as to where you think is a more appropriate place for your thread/post, as you seem to not want to have people actually discuss it, though maybe that is just when people are going to disagree with you. If this is the case, Ranting & Raving (the forum on this here Boards.ie) may be the only appropriate place.

Only if you have a ''clinical need'' for one, AFAIK.

hmmmm.... clinical need for scale and polish is tartar build up.
if you don't have that, then you shouldn't need a hygienist.

Right. Unless you are working nights like i am stressed about my health, my child an my rent: you have no right to be sarcastic. I support somebody and I am pretty much worried about about what will happen. I know I am at my end because i am arguing withpeople like you

what the **** are you talking about?

you've started a thread complaining about the price of a dental cleaning. what has that got to do with anything you've just said!? People like me? Sarcastic? wtf. I explained what my post meant, because you asked. if you've got a problem from that, that's all you.

op, there's a dental issues forum here under the science grouping. i can't link to it because the beta version isn't dropping the menu down at the mo, but you may be able to find it if you don't use that version.

either way, you'll still be told that you need to see a dentist about it, and not a hygienist. not sure what the set up in the US is with hygienists, but in ireland they're not supposed to work independently of dentists, because they're not trained to diagnose things like that.
