HD Channels: any way to stop the *massive* volume rise?

I've a fair few channels here but only three or four are high definition. Every time we come across them the volume immediately rises *massively*. We then have to reach for the second control - the TV as opposed to the UPC control - and turn it down.

Is there any way to prevent this discrepancy in volume levels happening?

    Thanks.

The tv should have a self volume setting I have a surround sound system and the hd channels ate the best as they broadcast in Dolby surround sound.

Thanks. Would that be the 'Advanced Auto Volume' button on this Sony Bravia? It's on 'Off' at the moment so I'll change it and see if it does that trick.
