    http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/1216/holly.html
Growers say this year's crop of holly, with an abundance of red berries, is one of the best in decades.

However, customers have been urged to check that holly is properly sourced and not stolen from the countryside.

It has been one of the best seasons for holly that people can remember, with branches absolutely laden with berries.

This is good for homes that will be brightened and cheered by the berries this Christmas.

Holly has been decorating homes at this time of year since pre-Christian days. Conservationists hope nothing will damage future crops of the colourful berries.

Joe Barry, who is a farmer and Farming Independent columnist, is one of many environmentalists who are worried that a lot of holly for sale has been stolen from the countryside. He said a large quantity of this is being exported.

Mr Barry said people involved in stealing holly from rural areas have no regard for the replenishment of trees or the damage to birds or wildlife. He said consumers should ask, when purchasing, where the holly has come from.

However, at the moment, consumers have to take the word of shopkeepers and sellers about where their berries come from.

But Mark McDowell of the Hedge Laying Association has called for a certification system to be introduced which would be a benefit for growers and a reassurance for consumers.

Mr McDowell also said many householders have holly growing in their garden and he advised them to just cut a few branches from each tree.

Or y'know.. you could just do without the bloody stuff altogether. I can't believe that this is actual news.

Fcuking certified holly like.. God help us when Daffodil Day comes around..

So in closing; stop stealing our countryside ya lousy jackeens!

I feel shame. Hanging unauthentic Holly upon my belt at the Christmas party makes me sad (more because my work colleagues ignored the holiday tradition) rather than stealing Holly farmers out of a Bob or two

 I've been known to steal holly for my own personal use in the past.
My Grandad used to drive up to the Slieve Bloom mountains on Christmas Eve and illegally harvest a fir tree.:D
