Referees don't get a match fee for intercounty games but get expenses such as mileage and meals

Thanks, why do it then if they don't get paid? It isn't the easiest job in the world.

It cost them money to do it because the GAA give them **** all expenses and they have to get 6 officials and themselves to a game and feed each of them with about 25 euro....

    not enough

    for the abuse and hassle

club games €30 euro, county games more. But its not payment. It is expenses to cover the costs of you getting to the game and having food after.

€40 in Dublin for club games. Each team pays €20

have umpired for a lad before and that's not true. referee only responsible for his umpires and not the linesmen as they could be coming from other counties within the province

Thats true, referee, linespeople and fourth official are appointed for the game, referee brings their own umpires. It ends up costing intercounty referees to go and referee games

    I thought he was fair
the last free was definitely a free.
the Brigids player flew into the last tackle and took the Garycastle player out of it. it was a stupid tackle, and the referee was fully justified in awarding the fre

Was cheering for Brigids but that was a clear free. Was shocked when I heard on the radio that it was "controversial", very clear cut to me

No it is not the easiest job, especially at lower levels when there are no TV cameras to pick up the crap they put up with (even if they are crap themselves - not on)

The love of the game? (for many it is not a cliche), at least they can say that they got to run out on Croker on All Ireland Final Day

You have to respect the time they give as much they can get on peoples tits at crucial stages of a game! I'm all for inter county refs getting rewarded more and coached more.

My biggest worry is the ageing umpires, some of whom wear glasses (Imagine their vision in the rain!). Its just not on. Surely a perfect eyesight requirement would be a given!

He wasn't one bit fair, he was woeful for both teams. I had no problem with the last free as it was one but as I have said in the other thread he was useless.
