Right lads I'm not a big listener of the roots and I would like to get into them seeing as they are well liked and they seem good from what i have heard, can anyone list a few of their songs i should listen to along with a few good albums of theirs.
    Any contributions would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Paddy.

start with the song, The Seed 2.0. If you don't like that you may as well give up on music

    "Adrenaline" from Things Fall Apart

"Don't Feel Right" from Game Theory

    "Criminal" from Rising Down

You should start off with Concerto of the Desperado from the 96 album Illadelph Halflife

Then pick up the album and marvel at how exceptionally great it is.

Ah sure, this one as well

You should also look up some of Black Thought's (lead MC) freestyles and battle rhymes from the early 90's. I dont think anyone could touch him in freestyle, probably some of the best stuff i've ever heard. And it's not like now-a-days freestyle where its written, but proper off the dome.

If I remember correctly, he stopped doing it because it just didnt interest him anymore.

Every track posted here is a good indication of what The Roots are about

As for good Roots albums, man, everything they touch is quality, even The Tipping Point, which I see being cited by a lot as their weakest release has some absolute belters!

    Speaking of which;

As I said, that's a track off one of their weaker releases

    Enjoy the music, dude :)

The Seed was played at a wedding I went to recently - best wedding dj ever! Love You Got Me with Erykah Badu too.

Easier to just say all of them. Go to Wikipedia and look at their discography. Listen to them by release date.

My favourite Roots album has to be Illadelph Halflife

But they are pretty much all good. Love the work with Ursula Rucker on the closing tracks of the earlier albums

Just buy any roots album and start from there. They will all be worth it. Don't think they have ever made anything less than very good (and most are excellent).

Get busy is my all time favourite roots song though, followed by how I got over.

Loving their latest album Undun. Black Thought has got to be one of my favourite emcees.

Saw them last year in London when they were touring for the collaboration with John Legend. Such a great live show.

    One of my favourites.

How I Got Over was an almost flawless album, beautifully sequenced. Would definitely recommend that.

Just had a quick listen through I tunes last night, ended up buying 2 tracks that I love in lighthouse and the one.

Il have to give the rest a listen, never really was a roots fan kind of slept on them but I am enjoying the 2 songs I bought from the album , I might just buy the rest as it will work out cheaper!
