    Hi there.
I spotted a nice xtrail and took a test drive.
    03 with 115k miles. 2.2 diesel

I've seen many comments about engine trouble. Is this all xtrail models or just specific ones?

It fits the bill in every aspect but I have this niggle in the back of my mind about engine troubles. Just typical

Turbo failure is very common on that engine.

Just another question. I spoke to two folks recently with these and they both claim to be getting near 45mpg while running in 2wd and about 40mpg in 4wd.
Thought these were very good, maybe too good? Neither guys were selling either just local lads I'd kinda know, neither have had any trouble which I liked the sounds off.
Anyone know if these figures are anyway near accurate?

I'd say they are being optimistic tbh. I had one for a couple of years and I was averaging about 38mpg. More here.

They are awful yoke to live with OP.

Intercooler pipework fails, turbo fails, feel cheap inside and really hard to sell on, no one really wants them. I had a guy throwing one at me for near nothing a few months back, but I'd not take it into stock.

    A santa fe/rav 4's a better soft roader.

    You're only half right.

They are troublesome and not for spending your money, without €3k, or more, put by for turbo and inter-cooler problems.

That said, they are the best small SUV, by miles, to drive.

Nonsense. The Xtrail is better on tarmac and actually has genuine 4x4 abilities, unlike the aforementioned.

The T30 (2003-2007) was decent for it's time, the only real issue was the Renault 2.2d engine.

Apart from the turbo issues, there's not a whole lot else that goes wrong with them. I did around 80,000 miles and never had an ounce of trouble with mine.

Jeebus, 3k for turbo issues. That's a serious amount of cash? Why so much. I knew I had read something before.
    Now I'm totally confused

As posted above, they regularly blew turbos and inter-coolers. Not a cheap fix, by any means.

I was refering the the hyundai and rav4 being more reliable (easier to live with) , not its tarmac abilities in which you are right, the x-trail is better, but they're a shytebox, and not one I could buy or stand over to sell on.

Was that from new or is it just a servicing problem ,

I hate it I had my mind near made up and now not so sure
People seem to either think they're great reliable sturdy or total balls of ****e?

Our 2007 2.2D has been off the road twice with injector trouble. An expensive repair. Apart from that nothing major in 180k miles. Feels like a van to drive IMHO.

No it had around 16k on it when I bought it. Is a petrol one out of the question?
