    Does anyone know if your Home Insurance still fully covers you if your house alarm wasn't on at the time of a burglary?

    If you got your quote based on having a house alarm, and you were not in the house at the time, then you are probably not covered as the assumption is that the alarm is on at all times when the premises is empty.

    If you didn't mention in your quote that you have a house alarm then you will be fine.

    probably not.

    you got benefit of discount for having alarm and you did not activate it.

    tough, but insurer will probably get out of the claim

    Some insurance companies only permit monitored alarms. If you claim an alarm discount and it's not monitored you may not be covered.

    Also, the alarm may have to meet certain standards.. probably to stop people from vandalising their alarm after a burglary and blaming the burglar for deactivating it.

    It varies. Some insurers will have a warranty that Theft cover will not operate if the alarm is not set when the house is unoccupied. Others, like Zurich, increase the theft excess if it is not set. Keep an eye out too for policy wordings that stipulate the system must be maintained annually by an installer.
