DUBLIN Dec 16 (Reuters) - A tanker carrying more than 54,000 tonnes of vacuum gas oil is to dock in Belfast as precaution after developing a crack in its deck, the Irish coastguard said on Friday.

The Genmar Companion was en route from Rotterdam to New York when the captain requested assistance this morning due to the longitudinal crack in its deck.

The the 228-metre tanker is 40 miles off the coast of Northern Ireland and is en route to Belfast, the coastguard said. (Reporting by Carmel Crimmins and Conor Humphries; Editing by Anthony Barker)

    I'm pretty sure there is.

The fact that the ship is still afloat and en route to Belfast proves it!.

Meanwhile, Joe Higgins has called for any oil that may leak from the ship to be nationalized at once.

We'll have to ask somebody for a few buckets first.

Why are oil spills so common. They need to be stricter about it.
Throw away comment but it seems like every few months there's a spill somewhere.

Wallace might be able to soak it out of the sea with his mop of hair and filter it through Mings beard.

Provided FF dont get wind of it and give the two boys away as an incentive that is.

I demand anything which goes into the buckets should be distributed equally but that I shouldn't have to contribute a bucket.

We should take the Somali approach on this one.

I'd wager that a very minute amount of the oil that gets shipped ends up spilled. I think they're doing alright.

Let's hope the vessel makes it into port without further incident. One consolation is that it's not carrying crude or heavy fuel oil, both of which could do enormous environmental damage, although gas vacuum oil is bad enough.
