Kindle Keyboard

    Hi,

I'm currently out of the country but trying to get a Kindle Keyboard as a Christmas present for someone at home. Amazon.com site has listed the Kindle Keyboard for International Shipment (i.e. for Ireland) as "Currently unavailable.
We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."

It's been like this for a couple of weeks now. Anyone know what's going on? I can't find any announcement about it, it barely seems to be getting a mention online.

Coming up to Christmas I would've thought Amazon would be more on the ball.

So I've tried to find Irish online retailers to buy it from. All I've got is PC World selling it for €179 which is a bit much I reckon.

Anyone know where else I can get one? Is it okay to buy from UK retailers, because I know they have their own Kindle Bookstore. I probably won't be able to get the gift in time for christmas now, but I'm willing to hold out and I'm not interested in the Kindle 4 or any of the other varieties.

    Any help would be appreciated

the kindle keyboard is the 3rd generation kindle, amazon is pushing the new 4th gen kindles now, so i imagine they only have old stock of the kindle keyboard to get rid of and the last of the stock is probably just dripping down to retailers now, but probably all gone from amazon themselves.

the only region locking on kindles is the billing address on your amazon account so you can buy a kindle from anywhere and use it anywhere, but your books will need to be purchased from whichever is your default store, based on your billing address (i.e. in the UK or outside the UK, which gets you the US store). you can just change your billing address to buy from the other stores, but if you make a habit of it, amazon will very likely shut down your account.

Tesco had the non 3G (Wifi) Keyboard Kindles for €149.99 recently, not sure if they still do (and give clubcard points). May be worth checking out Tescos
