Hi, I had an extension built a few years ago. It is an L-shaped extension with a 6 inch step all the way around separating the kitchen area from the lower lounging/dining area. This lower area is about 100sq feet in total. The area is tiled. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of how much it would cost to raise the floor the 6 inches so the whole area (lounge & kitchen area) were level?

very approximate, based on rough figures:

    Removing the tiles/skirting - €100
Concrete for the floor (about 1.5m3 needed) - allow €200. it will probably need to be done with a cement and sand mix, as to get a small load of readymix would cost a lot, as it would have to wait ages to get out as you would be wheelbarrowing it into the house.
    Labour to place - €300 - 2 lads for a day basically.
Retile - Allow €250 to buy tiles/grout/adhesive, €200 to lay.
Skirting - Allow €150 buy and fit.

Thats all coming in at about €1k. Could haggle on labour prices and other stuff, but it might give you some sort of an idea to work with anyway. Those are very rough prices though, and it could go up or down depending on conditions.

would 3' of insulation with 3' of screed over, be worth considering

i presume there are no doors that will be affected and that the ceiling height is the same in both 'low and high'

    Any radiators in the way?
