Bring back slavery to end budget deficit

Right wing politicians and libertarians believe that the large number of unemployed are a promary cause of our budget deficit. I used to disagree with them, but I'm coming around to their thinking and I have a proposal that can see an end to the burden of the unemployed on the state. If someone relies on state benefits for more than 4 months, they should be declared property of the state and sold as slaves to countries like Saudi Arabia or Australia to ease the burden on the exchequer. There are currently 460,000 plus unemployed, if we sold them as slaves at €10,000 a head we could raise €4.6 billion, enough to afford a pay-rise for our TDs.

Probably the worst attempt at trolling I've seen on Boards.

Thread lock within 3 minutes I'm guessing.

I think if everyone killed the nearest weaker person to them, pretty soon we'd be a very tough nation.

I do not agree that the unemployed a promarily the cause of the budget deficit and as far as i know Slavery would be considered a crime in most jurisdictions.

Poor effort. Try harder next time.

Even if we were to humour this troll policy, he's pulling figures out of his árse and the blindingly obvious human rights violations would be roundly resisted.

    Try harder next time.

The slave money wouldn't go to the state, just to the private banks. In a word, you could say the state will be selling them on behalf of the banks. It'd free up the social welfare budget for investing in the banks and in police to round up the unemployed and enforce the new laws, in a way we'd be shrinking the state cos we could then fire and enslave social welfare employees too.

What makes you think that? Start a bonus series of the X Factor and most people wouldn't give a damn about our newly enslaved.

All trolling aside - I wouldnt mind a few slaves of a sexy nature.

And as chuck said - Slaves build everything great, nowadays you cant pay somebody enough to dig a hole without the human rights brigade comming down hard.

We'd never be able to compete in the global market for slaves. Alone the city of Bengaluru (pop. over 6 million) would be able to supply far better ones at a fraction of our price and - as we have seen with all the jobs going there - their slaves are far harder workers.:):):)

Largely its the states fault that we are in this position. But there should be a scheme for people who are claiming social for a certain period are made earn it. Start with the sponges who started 5 years ago. Plenty of jobs are being turned down because of our unemployment benefits which is a disgrace.

..quickly followed by the health & safety brigade and the PC brigade.

There was a Garda on RTE just this minute advising people to use common sense and not be complete dullards over the Chrismiss.

Perhaps not 'slaves' as such but the idea has merit that anyone on the dole for more then 4 months be put to work for their social welfare doing anything (legal) that people are willing to pay the government to be done or any govermment funded service.

You know, spud picking, cleaning litter on beaches and motorways, Smashing rocks with a lumphammer, doing gardening, you know what the americans use illegal mexicans for.

all jokes aside but I think the long term unemployed, the scroungers, the people who make no effort to get a job should be made to help their communities. Washing graffiti from walls, picking up rubbish, cleaning parks or whatever etc. HOw many road projects have been stopped, or schools not built or hospitals etc. Now I know most of these folks do not have the mental capacity to engineer a road but they can pick up a shovel and dig the foundation or put a brick on top of a brick!!

Now dont get me wrong if you have been working all your life and are recently unemployed(as i have been) or are showing genuine signs of looking for work then fair enough but if those tracksuit wearing scobes want our taxes then they should give something back to the community instead of sitting on there arses watching there english cousins fighting on the Jeremy Kyle show.

    Tracksuit chain gangs!!!
