    Hi Folks,
Looking for a vocal mic ,but I don't have alot to spend! Was considering the Sennheiser MD 421, as it's versatile and it's seems to get positive reviews. Wondering if any of yall know of a similarly priced mic that might be worth checkin out?? Perhaps a condenser??

    ( I already have an SM7 ;) )

George Harrison was a fan of the MD421, he used it quite frequently for live vocals.

    Hi,
Ye I use the MD421 on vocals a lot and works well also a good all rounder on a variety of sources. Like the SM7 i would class these mics as honest sounding no hype and needing good vocal technique.
So in a way, bad singers won't like them -maybe that's a good thing dunno.
Re alternatives have a look at the audix range close in price and really great value for the quality. http://www.audixusa.com/index_2011.shtml .

Also note that mics like MD421 & SM7 really like good preamps with great range and good air-Sometimes coupled with the wrong preamp they can sound very flat.

I'd only use a 421 on vocals if the singers name was Tom .... Just sayin' .
