Emergency Services codes on doors

Little backstory to my query - I have asthma and last night it got particularly bad so I had to take my inhaler. Thankfully I had it with me, otherwise I may have had to ring for an ambulance because I wouldn't have been able to last until morning to see a doctor as it was somewhat hard to breath without convulsing in fits of coughing and wheezing.

But it got me thinking, there's a code that needs to be entered before you can gain entrance through the front door. Say I had collapsed, which almost happened once when it got that bad, and was unable to either give them the code or let them in, then how would they gain entrance? Is there a special code they can use?

I take it you live in an apartment block, usually they'll use the intercom to call other apartments, tell them theyre the ambulance service and ask to be let in.

If needed emergency services will access a building. This is preferably done by conventional means ( keys, someone opening the door, etc etc ) but if needs be more forceful means will be used ranging from kicking in a door or braking a pane of glass to open a latch to getting specialised equipment on site.

Gated apartments are to put it bluntly a pain in the arse. Generally, there is someone around to let you in but it inevitably delays you.

If access is impossible and the situation warrants it, damage willl be done to get in

Normally any necessary code is given by the caller and is then passed onto the crew on the ground from what I've saw and overheard in my time, but if forgotten to mention it could cause a life and death delay.

On another note, a lot of taxi companies keep the gate codes they receive from passengers in local gated estates handy at their office to convey to drivers who need the codes to pick up passengers in gated estates, so perhaps it's something individual members of AGS or the Ambulance Service could look at if they face frequent calls to the same location.

Codes get changed quite regularly so it only works while the code stays the same.

That's true, but I'd wonder how active the management companies are in some of the gated estates. I'd say they don't bother changing them too often.

The problem is with the estates that require you to register your phone and call an automated number for entry.

A lot of places have fobs for the vehicle entrances and the codes only work for pedestrain entrances.

    More arsing around
