    Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone would be able to advise me on this as I haven't a clue! Basically, my brother really likes port and dessert wines, so I would love to get him a nice bottle of something for Christmas. Could anyone recommend any to me? Or recommend a place in Dublin (city centre preferably) that would be able to advise well?

    Thanks! :)

Try Wines on the Green on Dawson Street or The Corkscrew on Chatham Street.

You won't go too far wrong with a 10 or 20 year old (depending on budget) tawny port.
Lustau sherries are very good .

I'd definitely try The Corkscrew on Chatham street and Remond's Off licence (and serious wine shop ) in Ranelagh. Both stock Niepoort Ports and Niepoort make the best tawny port in the country. I've tasted a lot of different ports (no, I'm not an alco (I hope) but I work in a city centre restaurant that specialise in ports) and the Senior Tawny (18-20 euros a bottle) make the best value I've tasted.

Coincidentally, this is the one that features in Dublin Wine School's courses. Make of that what you will!

If you're that near try the Wine Buff around the corner on the Ranelagh Triangle. Even more serious wine shop with Ruby an Tawny port and real sherries. Also Tokaij desert wines from Hungary and Louipiac from France.
