So which is better and what is the difference. Also is any decent aeg capable of a 7.4v lipo?

    THanks

7.4v all the way, 9.6v batteries keep getting worst after a period of use.

I was actually talking to a retailer there not so long ago about running a 7.4V LIPO battery in a stock airsoft rifle. He said to me " You shouldn't have any problems running a 7.4V LIPO as it is around a 9.6V NIMH. It may not last as long if you're using the LIPO battery."

Yeah, a 7.4v lipo is about the same as a 9.6v nimh, depending on the C rating. They usually don't last as long. the main advantage is size -- you can get a 7.4v lipo that goes in an m4 stock tube or small peq box.

People tend to associate 'lipo battery' with an 11.1v lipo, which only a few guns can take, and they're usually designed for it or upgraded to ****.

oh rite, thanks. Might aswelstick with the 9.6v's for now. :)

don't you need some kind of sensor that lets you know when the battery is getting close to empty?
cuz if you empty a lipo totally you will damage it.

any of these or simular you can get off other sites will do. i would suggest going for the one with the buzzer. unless your opponents are nice enough to let you check your battery readings or the color of the leds before shooting them :D

You don't need one of those. Just don't run down your battery. when your rate of fire drops, just take your finger off the trigger and that'll be plenty to avoid damage.

i read that a lipo batteries life may shorten a lot if it is discharged beyond noticeable voltage drop and the voltage drops sudden and fast giving no warning.

and if you are woundering where i get this from, i got this info from my Avionics Fundamentals text book. (yes i am an avionics technician)

Only if it's drained a good bit, tiny amounts are ok. It's like paracetamol, go a little bit over the recommended dose, you'll be ok, go too far - you're fúcked.

yeah XD they probably got a safety margin, but there is a reason for it.(probably for not getting sued by some dude that got half his face burnt of for not using the correctly)

but respect LIPO's try imagining having this thing in your stock.

and the smaller they are the faster they light up...

Stupid pointless video - I'd love to know what that cable leads to. It proves nothing. Similar results can be obtained with a standard airsoft batterry.

Not the point, you can make any battery explode by shorting them out and leading them into a thermal runaway, no problem. But lithium batteries is the only one i have herd of getting unstable and exploding just because you discharge them to much, and the Lithium Polymer is one of the more unstable ones.

But i like the LiPo batteries better, they are smaller and just simpler to maintain because of better charging procedures and options.
You just have to take some precautions like some kind of automatic buzzer or cutoff if the voltage gets to low, and keeping an eye on the charging proses (but you should do that anyway).

Just a quick point on exploding lipos

It is extremely hard ( some would say impossible when using an aeg ) to get a runaway reaction using a 7.4c lipo.

This is because it only has two cells, the cells will get to a point where they will not run the aeg well before they discharge to a level that will become dangerous. There is an issue with 11.1 lipos as they contain 3 cells, and with 3 cells it is possible to have the individual cells drained bellow their safe point but they still produce enought power to work the aeg and allow for the battery to continue draining.

Saying all this I have seen 3 normal cell battery explode but never seen a lipo go up yet. tbh just use common sense and do not be an idiot, lipos do need you to pay attention and they are not plug in and forget, they are not idiot prof which can cause problems with some people.

    yep, i agree!

but i have seen a 2 cell LiPo go up in flames, i did not explode thou and it was on my rends small RC on-road car, and he was running his car hard around the track, giving it full throttle on every possibility on the track.
so i can see that why it will be more difficult to make that happen on an aeg. giving the fact that you do not fire for 10 minutes strait, well u can on an LMG but you get my point.

anyway, lipo is in my opinion better, just do not leave it unattended while charging. and if you are going to put it away for a while do keep in mind that batteries have a self discharging, so charge it up before putting it in storage*.
(only Lithium bateries, NImh and NiCa is better stored discharged)

as you have said ourself that is rc and the voltage needed to run the car is different from an aeg which results in different behavior and they can not really be compared
