    1) They are LCD TVs with LED edge or back lights.

    2) Very budget. Maybe OK for PS3, but I'd not buy one as a TV. People like LG make TVs

I've often wondered what will we call true LED tvs when they become mainstream, they'll need something to differentiate it from backlight LEDs, but anything I can imagine will be quite a mouthful.

There are LED TVs. Real ones, well strictly video panels with 100,000 to 20 million or more discrete LEDs, which is why they are huge. They start at about 3m in size and go upward.

There are also OLED / AMOLED screens. They are LED like. Organic Electroluminescent. Not LEDs in the sense GaAs or GaAsP etc indicators, signs, large screens are. They are 10" or less and short life compared to true LEDs.

Is the picture quality really terrible on them? Why wouldn't you get one?

also on the one you linked, would that one or the hannspree work with saorview, and how long does it take pixmania to deliver?

The build and sound quality is dreadful on them Hanspree tellys, and for the picture quality the Panasonic would win in my vote.

If you order it now you should have it by next monday morning ;)

The 40 inch Hannspree LED TV is back on sale in Xtravison this weekend.
It seems like a decent amount of LED telly for the money and I cant see much else in the same price bracket at the moment.
Very few if any reviews anywhere online at the moment so has any one had anyone had any experience with this model?
    SL40UMNB

Side by side with the other end of the scale, Samsungs UE40D7000, a very pretty TV with an excellent picture, it looks much more than its one third of the price tag might imply.
And 2 year warranty as standard. If only the sound was a bit better.

My personal experience is that the Samsung while pretty and desireable has a few flaws that shouldnt be there at the price and the Smart end is a little too gimmicky to be useful and not up to a par with what is available on their tablets. It only has active 3D, which is ok but not as accomplished or comfortable as passive on other brands such as LG.
As for 2D picture, brightness and minimal bezel, no other TV in the show room grabs your attention like it.

But back to the budget end, apparentlly Hannspree is now the second best selling TV brand in Ireland, if you believe this. Mmmmm, well I never, but I might...

I did, in a (rare) moment of weakness. Bought it back, two days later. It was dreadful, particularly the picture.

Please elaborate. Was it this model?
What did you replace it with?

I had a look in a few stores and picture definitely wasn't dreadful. In one, it was side by side with the other end of the scale, Samsung UE40D7000 and tbh it compared favourably for the huge difference in price. Styling wise it is similar to the D5000.
Build quality seems decent for a budget price.

Sound is poorer than average and would need to be augmented for cinema surround sound, but that might be expected in a slim budget LED.
Saorview picture and epg seem fine, scheduling and pvr function seem to work better than the Samsung. Samsung has some nuisance limitations on the usb.

And if anyone thinks that Saorview has now permeated the masses, call in to a few of the big retailers and prepare to be gobsmacked. Many know less than their customers are expected to know and dont even have it set up on any TVs in store.

Conections wise, 3 HDMI, scart adapter (similar to Samsungs) replaces scart - (has composite av in/out), component+L/R in (Samsung employs component adapter), VGA+audio in, SPDIF optical audio out, headphone.
    Missing is phono audio out.
    2 year warranty.

So for €400 what other 40inch LEDs are there worth considering?

So an old model €140 19 inch standard LCD monitor TV rather than a current €400 40 inch LED TV.
I wouldn't even consider buying that model either.

Anyone with experience of their 40inch LED TVs?
