I find Donedeal is a kip. Tags all over the place, you search for one car and you get a few of those plus everything else. Why the hell would you tag as v40, mitsubishi, bmw if you have fkn Mondeo for sale? Freeform text is horrendous, too, half the country apparently incapable of grammar or spelling or anything remotely readable. The obligatory 'no texts, no timewasters, no private numbers', fvck off then.
I associate Donedeal ad automatically with 'chancer', 'deathtrap', 'clocking'. Sure I know thats just irrational and probably way over the top but I wouldn't go near the place for a car.

Having said that, CBG going downhill for a long time now.

Have to agree Donedeal is a kip populated by imbeciles incapable of spelling or otherwise constructing a sentence , how often do we read
'' owner immigrating '' jayz sure if they're coming into the country why would they be selling ?
Carzone has less choice but generally ads to a very professional standard with decent pics.
Adverts.ie is a sellers nightmare - stating no swaps , cash only is a waste of time - countless tools will offer you 25% of cash price and their shed of an Opel Corsa and 10 year old laptop.

I agree with most of the above sentiments. For me, Carzone went to the dogs with the change to the awkward, buggy layout a few years ago.

Donedeal waaayyy over-rated...unless you want to buy an Altezza of a lad called Anto... In fairness, it has it's place for private sales but the hash tag thing is abused and it's full of scobes.

Driving.ie has the same database as Carzone (mostly dealers) but much simpler interface (like the old Carzone). That's where I get my car-porn fix...

I wonder if the owner Ray Egan will drop into this thread like he did last time to tell everybody that they're wrong and how cbg.ie is the best website on the internet?

Independent Media as in Irish Independent? When did that happen?

I used to find it interesting browsing all the different sites when things were good. It's a whole different ball game out there now and there's really only room for two sites, i.e. Done Deal and Carzone. I find much of the stock on the other sites is obsolete, i.e. has been there for months on end.

Done Deal is perfect for private sellers and used car dealers selling your average ten year old 1.4 / 1.6 cheap cars. Carzone is obviously dealer heavy and TBH I really like the site and its filters. It was certainly ahead of its time back in, I think, late '08 when they changed the format but I can't see why people haven't got used to it by now.

The success of Done Deal for car sales is more down to the 'R word' than their prices. DD is jack of all and master of none IMO but in these times your average Joe is looking for bargain basement 'credit union' type stock not €20k+ cars.

Personally, if I had €2k to spend on a car I would be looking on DD. If I was investing a substantial amount of money on a car I would go straight to Carzone. I reckon most of the other sites are practically finished at this stage.

Does anybody know what the deal is with alot of their ads without phone numbers? like this one for instance http://www.cbg.ie/car_detail.aspx?ID=4931180. When you click the "click to view phone number" its a 4 digit code...

The only 4 digit number I'd be questioning there is the price tbh!

yeah i know the price is off but there seems to be loads of cars with codes instead of phone numbers. maybe tons of fake ads i guess

    im not sure
maybe the website owner wants the site to look bigger than it is.
or maybe the contact by email form ads you to a spam email list.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Adverts without phone numbers and silly cheap prices are just scams by people sitting in front of computers thousands of miles away. They want you to contact them by email so that they can give you some BS story about them working abroad and they will ship the car back to you as it is impossible to sell a RHD car in the country they work in. Carzone is riddled with them too.

€3600 for a 2 year old diesel Focus is just comical to be honest.

With regard to the 'I'd use done deal for a 3k car and Carzone for a 30k car comment', I'd be inclined to search every used car site if I was looking for any car at all. 5 minutes on each engine could bring you a nice bargain you didn't expect. Not everyone thinks Carzone is the prestigous online forecourt they think they are.

I bought my last car in the UK off eBay, the one previous to that off UsedCarsNI - both not being main stream sites you'd consider for sales.
