Local barman was in a shop the other day what sold saorview boxes. The woman behind the counter told him no need for aerial, just plug it into tv. I told him it would need some way of recieving the signal. He had said this to her but she was certain it didnt. Just plug it into the telly. Im sure she was wrong but he said she was certain. Can anyone clarify this? Box was 80quid... Thanks.

i dont know marcus, id say she didnt have a clue. He said she seemed confident enough! Had me goin when he said it. Would have saved me getting up on the roof putting up a new aerial.

Derek Mooney had Gay Byrne (wearing his Saorview hat) and a technical guy on the afternoon radio show a few months back and they were taking calls from listeners about Saorview.

Someone phoned in and asked if you need an aerial to receive Saorview and the fcuking idiot Mooney leaped straight in and said you didn't whereupon Gaybo and the technical guy immediately corrected him but I'd say the damage was done, that woman was possibly listening to the program.

Sorry to dig up an old(-ish) thread but how does saorview and apartments work?

My place is wired for upc but not sky or any dishes/aerials.

Recently cancelled my own upc digital tv subscription but im still getting the standard upc channels (14 or 15 or so) i presume once october rolls around that'll be cut (maybe even before then by upc?). TV isnt really a concern for me but i would like to know where i stand in regards to saorview?
Have the residents (owners) to organise an aerial for each block?

Also,an aerial for each tv,am i reading this right? One for my sitting room and also one for the bedroom tv? Surely not?

You could chance your arm on rabbit ears and go from there if you're in a strong enough signal area. My old Bravia can pick up all digital channels with just a metre length of coax tangled up behind it. This is on the ground floor on the other side of two brick walls and 5km of suburbs and no direct line of sight to the transmitter.
