Road fatalities map (USA)

    Found this linked on Urban Velo. It's a map of road fatalities in the USA from 2001 to 2009.

    You can zoom in and out and it gives a coloured dot indicating the type of person killed. Purple is vehicle occupant and orange is motorcyclist. The map could fairly be characterised as 'purple with flecks of orange'. The blue pedestrian and green cyclist deaths don't really register.

    This is a bit unfair since the majority of pedestrian and cyclist activity is probably in the cities. Even if you zoom in on a city like Boston, while blue and green are obvious components of the map there is still plenty of purple and orange.

    It's an interesting visual aid to backup the statistics most of us already know.
