I paid the VRT on the 505 today. All went ok and got my number. I knew it would be 85 KK ,. I happened to know the girl on the desk and I jokingly said that I would like 85KK505. She laughed saying that wasnt going to happen but she did say that there was a glitch in the system and that some big numbers were appearing. I know that Kilkenny numbers were still in the high 800's or early 900's so when 85 KK 8001 appeared I was surprised.....I kind of like the 4 digit number, but would it create problems down the road?????

I doubt it - johnf wasn't looking to get the 30 year exemption.

They have changed all the numbering sequences. Its all over the place, even for classics.

Interesting that she said there was a glitch, obviously she wasn't briefed on the new changes.

My old Baby, the dark green 300TransporterDiesel (you probably remember it) had a very same registration number, also 85KK-8XX, so higher number than yours and the car was registered in 2007. Whatever that means .

There is a place in Tralee near the FAS office - they do many styles of pressed plates. UTSCH is the name I think.

It was higher than yours, at 8001 (four digits) - all imports are now being given numbers from a range higher than the highest year-2000 range for that county (2000 was the highest ever car sales year, and is likely to be for some time to come).

This means that KK is starting at 8xxx for imports, and that Dublin imports are being given yy-D-120xxx  (in 2000, Dublin got to 00-D-1052xx, and with 11 years of imports is now around 00-D-1142xx)

its actually 11 with the two dashes. How many mistakes will be made identifying a vehcle in an incidetn now with so many numbers to spot.?

half baked half assed system...What should have happened is a complete new system with "cherished" plates available at a fee and definately the issue of unused numbers in the original series for Classics.

Revenue reset all the reg's last week. All are coming out like that now bar the 11 ones.
