Kindle v Sony ereader

    Hey,

I'm looking at getting an ereader and it seems to be between the Kindle or the Sony. I'm leaning towards the Sony as it's open to more file formats than the Kindle.

With the Kindle can you only use the file format that a book is downloaded from the internet in? And can you only read Amazon books on the Kindle?

Though the Irish Times article 10 days ago said that you can't access the Sony book store in Ireland either....

How do people find either reader and (aside from being tied to Amazon) do they find the Kindle easy to use?

    Thanks for all feedback

Fwiw the Kindle supports many of the formats, pdf, mobi, txt etc. You can also download books from project guthenberg or wherever and easily copy them onto your Kindle via Windows explorer, simply copying the file into the Kindles document folder adds it. My Mum got a Kindle and finds the device easy to use, now I copyed the books on for her, but theres a more idiot proof way of doing it using Calibre

Would have a slight preference for the Sony + Calibre myself given the choice. Both are a fine choice though.

Here is a good article in the New York Times about the new Kindle Fire and some of the issues with it. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/12/technology/personaltech/amazons-fire-some-say-may-become-the-edsel-of-tablets.html?_r=2&pagewanted=1&ref=general&src=me
