Think BMW have borrowed Audi's Photocopier

I presume most people are aware of the joke of the Audi design team using a photocopier and hitting enlarge for each model.

Well I pass by Frank Keane BMW in Blackrock daily and after looking at their cars on the forecourt and seeing the new range of BMWs on the road I began to wonder have BMW bought a photocopier of their own.

I understand the importance of branding but to me there has to be more of a difference between models in order to create appeal to different types of people.

Havne't seen a new 3 in the flesh but it looks ok in pics. The 5 is quite nice looking, 7 not so much.

Luckily you didn't include the new 1 in that chart, it's screen shatteringly ugly.

Mind you I feel sorry for the genuine decent engine enthusiast BMW driver these days to be lumped in with the now typical BMW buyer.

When they expect 75% of the sales of the 3 to be the boggo 316d and most 1 drivers think it's FWD, it really shows that the cars could literally be a turd with wheels, windows and a BMW badge and they'd still sell by the ship load.

I notice you conveniently left out beauties like the 5GT and 1 series.

How many 'enthusiasts' buy the cars brand new, though.

BMW are a business at the end of the day and making money is the only real end-game.

I would buy anything with a BMW badge and am a real fanboy however I agree with the OP the range is getting very similar, also this new flared nostril thing is not great. Having said that the E60 5 series was a grower which initially looked ugly but is now a design classic.

Also it must be said that the newer models are comfort focused rather than ultimate driving machines, this is a deviation from BMW's brand focus.

I do like the way the newer moidels have angled the centre consoile back to the driver. Old school BMW classic design and I like the way the centre console again curves down towards the driver again. The E60 had it very right angled.

It's getting back to the way the E39 interior looked, nice sweeping lines to really cocoon the driver in there.

I'm an E60 driver myself and do agree that it's aged well. Super car to drive, never any hassles with it at all with good power in 520D with great consumption.

3 Series looks nice. They're going back to the swooping nose which is nice.

The new 5 looks the best in the lineup, but thats generally true for BMW.
I think the new 1series (car not SUV, tho it too) is terrible looking.

anytime I see an X1, it looks like a regular 1 series being driven by a midget

and I have a midget fetish

    so this makes me sad

    I love the new BMWs!
I do think they do it the other way around then Audi. They use the "reduce size" not the "enlarge" button. And go from 7 series to 5 series to 3 series.
