My uncle is looking for the following size of tyre... Seems quite ridiculous to me @ €175 per tyre... well €170 in second place we tried!

    size is 225/50 R17.

Any reason why they are so expensive?

Without telling us the brand and model of tyre then the price means nothing.

Camskill will deliver 2 Falkens for 214

225/45/17 would be a much more popular size surely

Apologies they were Bridgestone tyres that were quoted. but don't know the model of the tyre. He just sent me a text wondering if I knew anywhere that could get them cheaper....

Thanks, Ideally he's looking for somewhere that will fit them too, but these are a fairly good price so might be hard to match!

It doesn't sound expensive to me for premium brand tyres in a large less then common size.

They are more then €175/170 on camskill and eiretyres so your doing well with those prices.

Is there much of performance difference between Bridgestone and Falkens?

(don't know too much about tyres myself - which may be obvious from the lack of detail in my post)

Bridgestone are one of the best IMO and would likely be the OE tyre on the Audi you said they are for. Falken tyres are very good too though, in the same league as the likes of Kumho and Hankook....which are light years ahead of any Chinese plastic tyres.

Have a look at 235/45 it would be around the same rolling size and was standard on some Audis and it's probably a bit more common. €170 is not a bad price though all in for Bridgestone in that size, you could probably get something like Vredestein, Uniroyal or Good Year a bit cheaper and are still good tyres.

The falkens obviously won't be quite as good as the best but there'd be over €200 in the difference

yeah i'd agree with ya there! but don't know if he will, have all the info anyway!

Big change for me I'm used to pricing part worn tyres for my ford mondeo mk2!

Thanks for all the help and patience lads!

I recently bought 2 tyres that size for €165 each fitted and they were runflats. Not runflats should be much cheaper. FWIW they were Hankooks and I don't notice any difference to the Continentals that were on the car previously.

If they were for BMW runflats, they'd be 230 Euro a tyre. Bloody ripoff. That's the Goodyear Eagle NCT5. Decent tyre, lasts a long time but it's crazy money. The 5 Series I had before took 245/40 R18's and that was up to €270 a tyre!

And that was on Eiretyres/Camskills. Though I got a place in Sandyford to do it for €268 fitted. They're an excellent tyre place and can typically get you prices, fitted below that of Eiretyres. It's Atlas in Sandyford if anyone is looking.

I got 4 part worn Bridgestone 235/65/R17 tyres for 250 all in on Saturday in www.tyreland.ie.

They are grade A with > 75% tread.

    care to explain ?

and just to be clear - the A is a rating they put on the thread wear not on the tyre itself.

I was paying 125 a tyre for average brands of 225/45/17 a few years ago for a laguna.

225/45/17 is a much more commonly used size so would be cheaper then 225/50/17 in the same brand.
