ESB supplying Gas at 9% cheaper

Got a phone call from ESB today to say that they are now supplying gas at 9% cheaper than the current Bord Gais rates.

The chap told me that if I swapped over from Bord Gais to ESB for gas, that I would also get a 9% reduction in my electricity too.

So that would be be 18% off in total.

Prices are frozen till December 2012.

The catch is that it must be done online and via direct debit. My bills would be emailed to me,instead of a bill sent in the post.

Im a fan of the old style way of paying a few quid off each week with the bill at the local post office.

He told me that I could still get 5% off the electricity and 2% off the gas,if I wanted to keep paying the "old fashioned way" in the post office.

Has anyone here got their gas with the ESB and if so,how do you rate it,and have you made much of a savings with the ESB??

    Thanks.:)

Sorry to be pedantic but it's 9% and not 18%. You get 9% of both fuels.

I signed up to this a few weeks back so hopefully it will ease the pain to some extent. Any discount is welcome in this day and age!

I did say 9%.........so 9% off gas and then 9% off the leccy adds up to "18% in total".

I asked the chap to confirm this, and he confirmed that if I went with them for the gas,I would get the gas at 9% cheaper and would also get 9% off my existing leccy bils,as Im allready with the ESB for electricity.

Thats for going the "online" route and paying via DD mandate.

If I opt for the old fashioned "bill in the post" route, then its 5% off leccy bill and 2% off the gas bill.

Eh please read what I typed agian.

I actually said 9%.........so 9% off gas and then 9% off the leccy adds up to "18% in total".

    Please read my post again.

    Read your post again.......

Let's say your ESB bill is €100. You get a 9% discount which equals €9.

Your gas bill is €100. You get a 9% discount. Also €9.

Combined, both bills are €200. Your discount is €18 which is still 9%. (18/200)*100=9.

    ESB bill €100. 5% discount =€5. Bill is €95.

    Gas bill €100. 2% discount =€2. Bill is €98.

    Combined is €200. Discount is €7. (7/200)*100=3.5.

Your total discount in the above example is 3.5%. Not 7%.

Paddy your thinking wrong. Imagine both bills come to 100 euro. Thats 200 euro for them both. So 9% off the gas and 9% off the electricity is not 18 percent its still only 9%

    Why

    9% of 100 is 9(if both bills are 9% thats 9% of 100 and 9% of 100)

    9% of 200 is 18

The value increases but the percentage stays the same.

I think everyone gets the picture though....

    I will close this shortly.

There are buyers of heat pumps who save similar amounts like paddy147 does with switching the energy supplier.....

Ask those buyers for real numbers and they come with dream figures.
