Renault Megane Immobiliser Prob

I have a 1996 Renualt Megane.
It was parked up for 6 months.
The battery went dead in this time so had to be taken out and charged and put back in, the key was unlocking and disarming immobiliser at this stage. By the time the battery was put back in the batteries in the key fob also went dead so these were replaced.
Since the battery was put back in and key batteries replaced, the key will not 1. disarm the immobiliser 2. remotely unlock the car.
The red light from the dash has also disappeared.
I spoke to a Renault dealer who said that it might have to brought back in to him.
This is going to be expensive as it will have to be transported on breakdown lorry.
Anyone have any ideas???

Try reprogramming the key.

I downloaded this and got the code. The prob was when I got to --- Put key in the ignition.
Turn on – the immobiliser light flashes.
... The immobiliser light doesnt flash??

I had a megane with the same problem a couple of years ago, in the end the Renault dealer told me the car needed an ECU at a cost of 450+vat which was realisticly more than the car was worth. Result was the car went to the big carpark in the sky.
